Trey Gellert grew up on his family’s Angus cattle farm in southeastern Indiana, and today, enjoys going back home to work cattle on the weekends. While in high school, he played sports and showed cattle in 4-H.
He attended Purdue University and, in 2016, received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences. Throughout his undergraduate time, Trey was involved with boar research projects and also worked on large, breed-to-wean sow farms.
He went on to attend Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in the spring of 2020. During vet school, Trey chose the food animal track where he focused on cattle and pigs. During the summers, he worked on dairies, the Indiana State Fair, and as an intern at a cow-calf practice in North Dakota. Trey’s clinical year was spent working exclusively on large animals and spent time with Stock Vets out of Rensselaer, Indiana; Smithfield Pork in North Carolina; Steele Veterinary Clinic in North Dakota; AMVC in Frankfurt, Indiana; and Four Star Veterinary Service (FSVS) in Chickasaw, Ohio.
He currently works as an associate veterinarian for FSVS based out of Chickasaw.
Trey, along with his golden retriever Reagan, lives in Troy, Ohio, where he enjoys being close enough to help on the family farm in Indiana and to see his nephews and niece grow up. He also enjoys coaching his nephews in basketball and helping them get ready to show cattle.
