Growing up near Twelve Mile, Indiana, Brittney Scales loved animals and knew she always wanted to be a veterinarian. Her passion for livestock began especially with cattle on her grandparents’ farm.
Brittney’s high school years were filled with many activities including 4-H, FFA, sports and clubs. She went to Purdue University for her undergraduate degree in 2012 and entered veterinary school in 2015. Brittney’s work at Purdue’s swine farm during the school years and summers sparked her interest in swine medicine. She focused on food-animal externships with beef and dairy practices during veterinary school. When she took the swine block during her clinical year in veterinary school, Brittney rode with Dr. Long as part of the program and, in turn, established a good relationship.
Brittney earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in spring 2019 with a mixed animal focus. She then joined the Swine Health Care, Inc. practice after school. She enjoys getting to know the swine customers and their pride for their family farms, many of which are four- and five-generation farms. She also likes seeing other species at the practice including small animals, cattle and small ruminants.
Brittney is married to Daniel who is a Purdue graduate and works in animal nutrition. The couple hope to eventually have their own cattle farm. Right now, they have two dogs and two cats. Brittney enjoys cooking, camping and being on the water.
