Aaron Slater, DVMaarsons@4starvets.com
Dr. Aaron Slater grew up in Evansville, IN where he was a part of a four-generation family farm that started with his great-grandfather and his O.I.C. pigs (Ohio Improved Chester). Raising and showing pigs has always been his passion. That passion lead him to also become interested in show cattle, sheep and Boer goats. He knew from an early age he wanted to be involved in the livestock industry and had his sights set on being a veterinarian. Aaron started his college career at Purdue University in Animal Sciences. He continued into the veterinary school at Purdue and graduated in May of 2015 with a focus in food animal medicine and surgery. After graduation, he spent a year in Elgin, TX as an intern at the Elgin Veterinary Hospital. EVH is a very progressive and unique beef cattle practice specializing in show cattle, bucking bulls, and all aspects of cattle production medicine and surgery. While he was in Texas, he also had the opportunity to spend some time with Dr. Jim Gleason in Levelland, TX. Dr. Gleason specializes in show pigs and the information he took away from that experience is invaluable. He learned several different surgical techniques and health management protocols, but most importantly, he learned a tremendous amount about show pig lameness and hoof trimming. After his time in Texas, Dr. Slater moved back to Indiana and started his own business specializing in show pigs. On December 1, 2016 he joined the Stoney Creek office and works with show pig clientele all over the country.
“I enjoy all aspects of the show pig industry, and it has been and will continue to be a big part of my life. Having a career that allows me to work one-on-one with show pigs and their owners is as close to a dream job as I could ever ask for.”
