Meet the Elizabethtown, PA Office Veterinarians

Michael Pierdon, DVM

Dr. Pierdon is a native of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He received his BS in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Tech and completed his veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the Executive Veterinary Program at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and was named Young Swine Veterinarian of the Year in 2009 by the American Association of Swine Veterinarians. In 2014 and 2015 he participated in the National Pork Producers Council’s Swine Veterinarians Public Policy Advocacy Program. Dr. Pierdon is married to another swine veterinarian, Dr. Meghann Pierdon, who does teaching and outreach at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Drs. Mike and Meghann live with their three children in Bainbridge, PA.

“I love healthy pigs. Working with farmers to improve their herd health and keep their businesses profitable inspires me. All farms have different markets and unique goals, I enjoy working closely with a client to find out what they need for their situation and then helping figure out how to achieve it. The variety of working in many different systems keeps me engaged and helps broaden my experiences and perspectives.”

Jon Van Blarcom, DVM

Dr. Jon Van Blarcom grew up on a dairy farm in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Jon graduated from Juniata College with a BS in Biology in 2008 and completed vet school in 2012 at the University of Pennsylvania. He spent nearly two years working as a swine exclusive veterinarian in Iowa and returned to his home state of Pennsylvania in the spring of 2014. In his spare time, Jon likes to help on the family farm in Columbia Cross Roads, PA. He also enjoys hiking, fishing, hunting, and playing soccer.

“I enjoy getting out to different operations and talking with the farmers about their individual needs. I find helping farmers improve their production or being able to help them with a farming issue to be the most gratifying part of my career. Working with animals is always very rewarding and enjoyable, but seeing farmers succeed with their goals is the best part of what I do.”

Laura Carroll, DVM

Dr. Laura Carroll is a native of York County, Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from High Point University in High Point, North Carolina and completed her veterinary degree at North Carolina State University in 2016. Laura’s passion for swine medicine and production resulted from a summer internship with Dr. Pierdon prior to starting to veterinary school. Since that summer, she has spent extensive time working with production systems in North Carolina, as well as time in the Midwest, Pennsylvania and Brazil. Laura is excited to be back to her roots, and currently resides in Lancaster. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, running, and spending time with her family.
